Dr. Trudier Harris Intercollegiate Black History Scholars Bowl

Registration Information
The University of Alabama Black Faculty and Staff Association has partnered with the UA Division of Student Life to host the 2023 Dr. Trudier Harris Intercollegiate Black History Scholars Bowl. This event will be held as a part of UA’s Annual Black History Celebrations and programming during the month of February 2023. The day will conclude with the BFSA Wakanda themed Scholarship Ball at 6:00pm that evening. All undergraduate student clubs, organizations, or individually organized student teams of all skill levels are welcome!
All graduate students are invited to participate as event staff and officials for the Bowl. Each team will compete to showcase their scholarly knowledge of African American History in a variety of categories.
Team Eligibility
Teams will consist of 5 members. No prior knowledge or experience is necessary. All registered teams will have access to an official study guide and preparation resources for the 8 scholastic categories. This event is designed to celebrate Black History and create healthy competition between neighboring Colleges and Universities. Here are a few additional requirements for each team:
College/University Representation
Each College and/or University should be represented by one team at for the Dr. Trudier Harris Intercollegiate Black History Scholars Bowl event on February 25th, 2023. College/Universities who have interest from multiple teams may conduct qualifying rounds in order to select the final team that will represent their institution.
*Qualifying Rounds- the method for determining which team will represent each institution is at the discretion of participating college/universities.

The event will be hosted during The University of Alabama 2023, Black History Celebrations on February 25th, 2023, at the Bryant Conference Center. We will continue to update details regarding the structure of the event. All teams must compete in-person, we will have space designated for public seating through our rsvp service.

- Team should consist of five members. Each member should be actively enrolled undergraduate students at their respective College or University during the 2022 Academic year.
- Teams should designate 1 captain, 4 teammates.
- Each team will be required to register with an Official Team Name. The name should highlight an African American Historic figure of the groups choosing.
- All team members should have a sponsor/coach who is a faculty or staff member at their College/University.
- The sponsor/coach and all 5 team members should be present at all official phases of the competition.
- Team Registration deadline is January 16th, 2023.
- Each Team will get a reserved table at the 2023 Wakanda Scholarship Ball, table of 8.
- The winning team will be presented at the 2023 Wakanda Scholarship Ball to be held later that evening (6:00pm -10:00pm) at the same location.
College/University Representation

Parking
Guests can park in the Capstone Parking Deck. The deck is located at 921 2nd Ave. Tuscaloosa, AL 35401. If you are attending an event and the event is covering your parking fees, you will need to ask the event coordinator for a parking permit that will allow you to scan in and out of the deck. If the event is not covering the fees, you can park in the deck as a visitor. Rates are as follows and are subject to change |
